Thank you, Veterans, on Veteran's Day!

When you trudged for miles in strange lands, you were carrying me.

When you shot at our enemies, you were defending me.

When you put yourself in harm’s way, you did it to shield me.

For me, and for our nation.

Did you know you were carrying our dreams on your shoulders, dreams of a free nation for our children and generations to come. Because of you and your sacrifices, we have been the lone defender against oppression worldwide, and even though we now seem to be corroding from within, you were faithful to carry the torch through time. You gave us the freedom that we so often take for granted. Your strength, your courage, your blood, sweat and tears afforded us our liberty and we are so very grateful.

For the painful hours and challenges of the wounded who continue to pay the price, for some it’s all you can do to manage an every day routine with your injuries…the aches, the hours of frustration, you are the most heroic among us, you and the families who bear the grief of the ultimate sacrifice, the loss of sons and daughters, dads and husbands that fought so bravely and never came home.

Freedom has never been free, but it seems only the best of us have borne the burden. I pray God bless you and keep you, soothe you in your pain and memories, cloak you in what joy you can find, and ultimately welcome you home with a parade as has never been seen this side of heaven.

Though words inadequately express what is in our hearts, THANK YOU and God bless you.

Weeping may endure for a night,
But joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30
